Dunfermline's twin strikers Mark Burchill and Noel Hunt secured an invaluable win as Jim Leishman's side attempt to beat the drop.

They contributed a goal apiece to win the match as Dunfermline somehow survived a late Falkirk onslaught.

Darryl Duffy pulled a goal back and Falkirk hit the woodwork three times but Dunfermline survived.

Falkirk's Russell Latapy should have done better with a 19-yard free-kick than curl it high and wide.

Falkirk lost midfielder Steven Thomson after just 16 minutes when he limped off with Ryan McStay taking his place. Gary Mason was lucky to escape a booking when he was late in a challenge with Kenny Milne, but referee Kenny Toner let him off with a lecture. But his next challenge on Neil Scally could only bring one result later in the half as he became the second player to be yellow-carded.

Dunfermline did not seriously test Matt Glennon in the first half, but Mason should have done better than lash a left-foot volley wide after good work from Mark Burchill.

Burchill never gave Falkirk a moment's peace and nabbed the ball off Glennon on the by-line but the angle was too tight for him to do any damage and Craig Ireland headed comfortably away.

It was Falkirk who came closest to snatching the lead after 33 minutes. Latapy put Duffy in and the young striker looked to have done everything right as he clipped the ball over Allan McGregor, but the ball came back off the face of the crossbar.

There was another escape for the Pars three minutes later when Ireland got his head to a Latapy corner but McGregor was down smartly to block.

But the goal came at the other end when Noel Hunt was hustled out of possession but the ball broke to Burchill, who made no mistake from the edge of the area.

Hunt headed the second after 58 minutes from an acute angle after a Darren Young free-kick.

Duffy pulled a goal back midway through the half when he stabbed in Alan Gow's cross to set up a grandstand finish. Gow was twice denied by the woodwork in the final minutes as Dunfermline held on.
