Hamilton gave manager Allan Maitland the perfect send off in his last home match with the club beating champions Falkirk through a Steve Convery goal.

With Accies already safe from relegation and Falkirk confirmed as first division winners, there was a more relaxed atmosphere than in recent weeks with both sides trying to play attacking football.

Accies has an early chance to take the lead when an unmarked Mark McLaughlin headed wide at the back post after a Francisco Paquito cross from the right,.

At the other end the unpredictable Paquito nearly gave the visitors a goal, his poor clearance giving Daniel McBreen a second chance after David McEwan had saved his first attempt. However, the Falkirk man shot wide.

The decisive goal came after 31 minutes from Convery, but he had much to thank Colin Cramb for. Through on goal, the Hamilton striker looked certain to shoot but his generosity in squaring to Convery almost allowed Allan Ferguson to spoil the party. At the second attempt though, Convery fired home from 12 yards.

A Lee Hardy volley two minutes later - also courtesy of Cramb - was well saved.

The remainder of the match saw Falkirk pressing but increasingly leaving gaps for the home side, although Darryl Duffy did strike the post.

Hamilton counter attacks could have resulted in two goals for Brian Carrigan, but Ferguson was equal to both efforts, including a remarkable 35-yard volley.

The home fans were desperate to see departing hero Brian McPhee notch one more goal, but settled happily for a fine win.
