Falkirk salvage a point

Chances were at a premium as Partick were held by Falkirk in a 1-1 draw at the Firhill Stadium.

The hosts took the lead in the 24th minute when Mark McGuigan collected Paul Cairney's pass before finishing from close range.

Alan Archibald could have doubled the lead immediately but blazed his effort from inside the penalty area over the bar.

The visitors rarely looked like threatening and failed to create a single opportunity in a poor first half.

They began to press after the break, however, and Farid El Alagui was twice thwarted by an organised Partick backline.

But they drew level in the 71st minute when Blair Alston was on hand to fire home Craig Sibbald's cross.

Darren Dods had a chance to snatch all three points in the closing stages but couldn't keep his header down inside the box.
