The 31-year-old underwent surgery on Thursday after rupturing his Achilles tendon during the goalless draw with Motherwell midweek.

Pele arrived in November after being released by West Brom and his contract with the Bairns is set to expire in the summer.

Boss Eddie May - who blamed Falkirk's pitch for the injury - told the Herald: "Pele had been doing well for us, was coming on to a right game and looked a big player for us for the rest of the season.

"But it's not to be and it's a real shame for him.

"Since he came in from West Brom his attitude has been fantastic, the way he has mixed with the lads."
